Other BIOMS Requirements
- GPA
Students must maintain a GPA above 3.0
- Course Numbering
Only graduate level courses can be taken for credit in this program. These courses have numbers between 600 and 899. Students may petition to take 500-level courses. In all cases, the student's Plan of Study must be approved by the BIOMS Executive Committee. Any changes to the Plan must be approved by said committee.
- BIOMS Seminars
Students must attend seminars to keep abreast in the field.
- Committees
For MS: committee must have at least 3 BIOMS faculty members (but not more than 6 total members), one of which must be in a different department than the advisor.
For PhD: committee must have at least 3 BIOMS faculty members, one of which must be in a different department than the advisor. There must also be one committee member outside the BIOMS program.
- Master's Thesis (and PhD Thesis)
All MS (and PhD) students must complete a thesis and an oral defense of said work. The thesis defense is open to the public and may be a part of the BIOMS seminar series.
- PhD Thesis Proposal
All PhD students must complete a thesis proposal and an oral defense of said work. The thesis proposal defense is open to the public and may be a part of the BIOMS seminar series. Upon successful completion of the PhD thesis proposal, the student becomes a PhD candidate.
